AB 2047 is law: signed Sep 26, dormant until ASTM acts

Governor Newsom signed AB 2047 on Sep 26 (Chapter 461, Statutes of 2026). It takes effect Jan 1, 2027, but the printer sale ban only starts if ASTM International publishes a blocking-tech standard and the CA DOJ writes rules: mid-2028 at the very earliest, realistically 2030 or later, possibly never. The card now covers owners, used sales, gifts, self-built machines and businesses. Take Action has a new "Get in before the standard exists" panel, and the letter generator now writes to the CA DOJ.

AB 2047 was formally enrolled and presented to Governor Newsom on Sep 14 at 1:30 p.m. He must act by Sep 30: sign, veto, or the bill becomes law without his signature — California has no pocket veto. The card's timeline, details, and verification date are updated.

The Prop Problem now has its own tab — why shape-detection algorithms and Star Wars prop blasters can't coexist, with examples from our own members' testing. The Blocking Technology tab gains a plain-language explainer of ASTM International, the standards body California's AB 2047 hangs on.
